Aging isn’t painful and even young pets may “behave like seniors”.
The reason is: unrecognized pain!

Did you know that most dogs but also cats and rabbits, suffer silently from painful inflamed joints? Because this type of pain is not necessarily causing pets to “cry out”, arthritis is the leading cause of poor quality of life in old furkids, troubling many younger pets, too!

April is our dedicated month to help you recognize your pet’s joint pain.
Learn how to provide comfort with natural solutions!

Part 1 – April 1, 2025

Dear AsiaPaws friend,

Arthritis is one of the main pain sources for dogs and cats. Even rabbits suffer from it! ☹ This painful joint inflammation can make your pet hesitant to move, to get up to drink water and even cause sleep interruptions at night.

As a veterinarian I see arthritic pets every day while the human family is clueless about their furkids’ suffering.

Arthritis in pets is a hugely important topic that deserves to be highlighted for the whole month of April. Our task is to alert and educate you to be the best pet guardian.

Let’s begin with the most common key sign of arthritis in pets:

Joint Pain and Stiffness in the mornings and during cooler/rainy days

Watch out for stiffness after waking up. Even a few limping steps in morning or after a longer rest during daytime are red flags for arthritis.
Some pets show more pronounced stiffness when temperatures drop during rainy season and in airconditioned rooms.

Additionally, you will possibly realize that your pet no longer (or rarely) stretches.

Your pet may also have restless nights with “tossing and turning” episodes that last minutes to an hour. Seemingly aimless wandering around without the need to eliminate are often caused by joint pain which is often worse at night!

Natural Arthritis Help at Home

1. Massage your pet before she gets up.

2. Learn about gentle “passive range of motion exercises” to improve blood flow and loosen up tight tendons for more flexibility.

3. EPSOM salt baths for 30 min (once weekly) or Magnesium oil applied on tender joints before bedtime help relax joints and reduce pain.

Let’s work on recognising arthritis in our furkids and stop their “suffering in silence”!

It is my pleasure to help you help your pet!
