Toxins Be Gone: Spring Clean Your Pet’s Wellness!

After we’ve started detoxing with a course of acupuncture, let’s take our furkids to the next step of herbal remedies for more cleansing at home.

Natural medicine isn’t about “patching up”. Instead, toxin-triggered symptoms call for help to cleanse the body while also supporting immunity and digestive health for optimum function.

My three favourite herbs are

ginger

milk thistle

dandelion

for liver, the kidneys, and, very importantly, our pets’ the digestive system –
the “highway to better health”.

How to integrate these herbs easily and safely into your pet’s diet?

Ginger, abundantly available in Malaysia, essentially assists digestive organs.
Add a small amount of young ginger into your pet’s daily meals.
Dosage (preferably juiced): ½ teaspoon for your cat or small dog/day,
one teaspoon for medium sized dogs a day.

Begin by adding ginger (juice) twice weekly. Increase “ginger days”. The goal is to add ginger (juice) every day in the 4th week of your pet’s detoxing course.
If your pet eats kibbles, add a small amount ginger (juice) to a natural treat like cream cheese, boiled egg (yolk), liver pate or other soft/mushy tasty treats.

Milk Thistle and Dandelion
They complement each other supporting kidneys and liver. Select a high quality “pure” supplement with only one or two ingredients. Human grade is fine, preferably a liquid alcohol-free formulation.

The dosage of Milk Thistle and Dandelion varies with each product.
Without the help of a holistic vet, you may give a quarter (dogs) and an eight (cats and toy breeds) of the recommended human dosage.
Don’t give flavoured human supplements or medicines to your furkids,
product flavours are almost always toxic for pets!

Dosage: Start by giving your pet the supplement every other day (every 2 days) for 10 days.
If no signs of heavy detoxing (diarrhoea, more/ rashes) increase to daily for another 10 days.

The more toxins your pet is dealing with, the slower you should increase your herbal remedies dosage, to avoid detoxing stress marked by skin rashes, stiff joints, itching, soft stools and general grumpiness (headaches).
