If you feel it’s unfair to “wait and see” while your pet suffers in silence, find out with me
how to identify if your pet suffers and which type of help your pet needs!

April is our ‘Osteoarthritis dedicated’ month.
Let’s get ready for more “can do at home” solutions!

Part 2 – April 7, 2025

Dear AsiaPaws friend,

Many vets tend to overlook “silent pain” in our pets. Osteoarthritis in small dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs is one of most commonly overlooked conditions. Here is HOW YOU CAN FIND OUT if your pet needs help!

3 Universal signs to recognise Osteoarthritis in our dog, cat, rabbit and guineapig (and all other pets, too!)
– & home remedies to ease your pet’s OA-pain

– Swelling, Around Joints
Visible swelling on a joint is a red flag for an ongoing inflammation.
Not only does this hinder our pets to move this joint, but they are in pain!

– “Stiffness” and a reduced ability to stretch or flex joints
Have a closer look at your pet.
Are there signs that your pet is not willing or able to fully stretch or bend certain joints?
Not using a leg properly or “differently” is another “red flag” for osteoarthritis.

– Fatigue
Chronic inflammation and pain in joints make our pets very tired.

In dogs, a common symptom of arthritis is that they are walking less and seem “unmotivated” to go for walks. Cats don’t jump onto their favourite resting spots anymore or even hide in dark corners. Guinea pigs and rabbits seem to have lost their ‘zest of life’,
with no more zoomies and jumps.

Natural Help for your Arthritic Cat, Dog, Rabbit or Guinea Pig at Home

For joint swelling: if it feels warm or hot when you touch the joint, apply cold packs to swollen areas. This will reduce an acute inflammation.
For cold swellings, use warm packs to increase blood flow in the joint.
For increased anti-inflammatory power, use a towel soaked in strong ginger tea or turmeric solution. Cover the towel wrapped joint with a sheet of plastic, and keep the wrap on for half an hour. This type of joint wrap can provide great pain relief.

How about adding something to my furkid’s food to help ease the pain of osteoarthritis?
“Activated” turmeric in your pet’s food can be helpful, as long as your pet accepts the taste. Make sure you only use “bio-available” turmeric preparations such as “golden paste” for that wholesome goodness to really benefit your OA-furkid!

For stiff joints, engage a professional physiotherapist or chiropractor and follow their program of daily light exercises to improve and maintain joint mobility and also to prevent further stiffness of affected joints.
