Hey Paw Parents!
Fats can be your pet’s best friend or worst enemy, depending on the type of fat add to your furry family’s diet.

Here is what you really need to know about fats and your furry friend’s diet!
Spoiler alert: the right fats are not just delicious and carry flavours to make the palate happy – they are essential for keeping dogs, cats, and even our pocket-sized rodents in tip-top shape.

But not all fats are created equally! Let’s shine the light on dietary fats

Ditch the Bad Fats – Your Pet Deserves Better!

Say firmly “NO” to seed oils like corn, canola, sunflower, and the like. Aside from zero nutritional value they only ramp up inflammation in our furkids’ body. Their only claim to fame is making processed food palatable. And to add calories to meals. So, check your pet’s food for these red flags and steer clear of foods with seed oils!

Animal Fats to the Rescue!

Now to the good stuff! Fats from animals like chicken, lamb, pork and beef can be super nutritious – if these animals weren’t loaded with chemicals, of course. Chicken fat, beef tallow, and pork lard can be your pet’s best friends! But if you feel a bit cautious about chemical pollution, opt for unsalted butter or ghee from grass-fed cows.

Coconut Oil: The Plant Hero

There is one shining star among plant ‘fats’: coconut oil! Packed with medium-chain fatty acids, it’s easy to digest and a fantastic option especially for pets prone to pancreatitis.

 Fats and Weight Management
The burning question now is: what about the weight of my furkid if we add on fats? The combo of fats and carbs can make managing weight tricky. But instead of ditching healthy fats, how about cutting back on those ‘no-good’ grain-based carbs? Remember, a healthy diet is all about nutrient-packed goodness, not about counting calories!

Cheers to Good Fats!
Remember, the right type of fats in your pet’s food are a non-negotiable part of a healthy and complete diet. Get this ingredient right and your fur-kid will be living their best life!
